On January 26th, the AP government students of Coronado High School polled 122 voting aged citizens out of the 370 who attended the Democratic Primary Debate
for the Texas 16th Congressional District. The data demonstrates an early indicator of where the community stands prior to the Primary Election and how the debate affected the people. There was a significant change in vote (from between 19% and 27%), showing that there is actually a political atmosphere in which the community is concerned about politics, as opposed to the anti-congressional atmosphere in the nation. This data also shows that the student-generated debate held at Coronado legitimately affected the citizens and provided them with the avenue to gain knowledge as well as the opportunity to get involved in the political process. The change in votes demonstrates that the students of Coronado High School actually made a difference.
