Here are my departing thoughts to my students who are studying history. Blow people's minds without ruffling their feathers. If feathers must be ruffled don't be afraid to ruffle them.
It is with a heavy heart and after much contemplation that effective January 4, 2018, I will retire from educating the students of EPISD and the State of Texas. It is very difficult for me to give up what I love so much. I retire at a point in my career when I still believe I can make a difference. It has come to my realization over the past few months my educational goals are no longer aligned with the goals of the administration.
Education is more than mere survival. It not the checking of some bureaucratic box. It is a passion and love for the students. It is taking a risk, making a sacrifice and valuing the students. You as students have curiosity. Curiosity is a source of learning. I have seen that curiosity in each of you every day throughout the first semester. There is hope for our future. Currently in education the adults are killing that curiosity. They are not challenging you to that next level of learning because they think you don't want to know. As educators, we have to show value in that curiosity. We have to respect your sacrifice.
I want to thank each and everyone of you. I have learned as much from you as you have learned from me. I am here for you, just not there for you. If you need anything in the future and I can help, I will. You are missed. You are loved. Love ya
